He attended a meeting at the spa and was a keynote speaker at a conference hosted by York and North Yorkshire Cultural Partnership to launch its Cultural Partnership Strategy. The Strategy aims to capitalise on both the economic and the participation benefits that London 2012 will bring and up to 200 delegates are expected to hear more about how it is a catalyst to inspire and engage people in the region.
In the afternoon, Mr Allen focused on the sporting benefits for the region when he visited Dalby Forest near Pickering to see the newly-completed tracks for the Mountain Bike World Cup. Dalby is to host a round of the World Cup next April and youngsters from Lady Lumley’s School at Pickering were amongst the first to use the tracks in a taster session during Mr Allen’s visit.
